Up-date: December 6th Meeting to Determine the Future Direction of our Group
Greetings to our membership,
Our core executive group met on December 6th, 2018 to determine the future direction of our group. We received very few responses to the email sent to members in October. In addition, the number of active members is presently too small to consider bringing another refugee family to our community.
The Kimberley Refugee Resettlement Group’s mission is to help persecuted people from around the world escape to safety and freedom, one individual, one couple, or one family at a time. But, being able to help a refugee come to Kimberley does not necessarily mean the path to self-sufficiency is straight forward.
In our community, we have refugees who are struggling to reach that goal. Still suffering from the challenging circumstances of their past and relocation, they are in need of assistance. Our group has decided that we cannot look away from their struggles in favour of bringing more refugees here at this time. Instead, we are going to work in whatever ways make sense to continue to support the family in building agency and becoming more financially stable. Our actions will be directly determined by discussion with the family. This new direction is a work in progress and we will keep you informed as we determine our role in supporting the ongoing resettlement. In an effort to guard the confidentiality of the family, we are being quite general in our comments about the change in direction.
What we do know is that we will need to continue fundraising and at times asking for assistance with particular projects or supports to the family. In the last few months we have received some money from a luncheon that we catered and a great donation of $1700 from our involvement with the fall fair. We are very appreciative of the 5 people who donate monthly through the bank. With fewer active members, we have had difficulty putting on the larger fundraisers. Please, if you can see your way clear to helping financially, it would mean a step up for KRRG in helping others.
Feel free to contact me, Louise Hockley, treasurer for KRRG, at 250-427-3726 (h), 250-427-1118 (text) or firstname.lastname@example.org to facilitate your donation. Thank you for your anticipated consideration and for all you have done to help in the past few years.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy New Year.
