2021 Update from the Kimberley Refugee Resettlement Group
Greetings to all in Kimberley and beyond. We hope you are all remaining happy and healthy. We wanted to provide an update on what we’ve been up to and some next steps in our work.
We’ve been a very small group over the past year or 2 however are pleased to report there’s been some recent activity in the work we are doing. Over 2 ½ years ago, the KRRG had submitted a co-application on a refugee sponsorship opportunity for a single person. That application is now starting to manifest with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) taking the next steps to approve this application that has been in the queue for years, and then complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is now looking like the KRRG will be actively working to transition an individual with refugee status to Kimberley in the coming months. The exact timing has not been verified by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
At this time, we are looking for support from the community for the following:
Get involved! We will be meeting every couple of weeks in January/February, 2021 and would love to have more individuals involved. Please message us via Facebook or by reaching out directly to Becky Pelkonen at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Donate. We will be actively raising money for refugee sponsorship activities once again early in 2021. In the mean time, please visit this link to donate directly:
Stay informed. Continue to follow us on Facebook and here on this news feed and we will continue to update you on our latest work. We will also be listing specific items we may need donated in the coming weeks.
Got a lead on housing? We will be looking for a room or apartment rental some time in the Spring of 2021 for this individual. For more information about what may be required, please contact Becky Pelkonenat at email@example.com.
